Growing up in Shenzhen, China with a coming of age in Northern California; Jade Ryan navigates the diverse complexities of human experiences through distorted perceptions, grotesque imagery, and sculptural forms. By manipulating conventional notions of beauty and normalcy in Asian and American cultures, she challenges societal expectations, prompting viewers to confront the uncomfortable aspects of the human condition. Ryan’s creations serve as a contemplative mirror, reflecting the dissonance within the human psyche while initiating a dialogue about societal influences on our perceptions of self and others.
